What is Single Sign-On?
Single sign-on (SSO) allows users to log in using a single ID and password to access several software systems without re-entering their authentication factors each time.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is an electronic authentication method that requires additional layers of validation to access network applications and resources. You may have experienced this when your bank texts you a number to continue to log into your account. For much of the State of Iowa enterprise, MFA is used for VPN login authentication.
Why Multi-Factor Authentication?
The State of Iowa is moving towards a Zero Trust security model with Okta MFA. This brings increased security and is rooted in the principle of never trust, always verify.
Other Benefits:
Allows us to modernize and better protect user identities going forward.
Single-Factor username and password more easily compromised.
If one authenticator is compromised, unauthorized users will be unable to meet a second requirement.
